What Vitest is
Vitest is a testing framework built on Vite. It reuses the Vite config, transformers, resolvers and plugins of the application under test. Assertions use built-in Chai with APIs compatible with Jest expect. Jest-style snapshots, mocking, stubbing and spies are supported. Code coverage comes through v8 or istanbul. JSDOM and happy-dom provide DOM and browser API mocking. Browser Mode runs component tests in the browser, with examples for Vue, React, Svelte, Lit and Marko. Other listed features include watch mode, benchmarking with Tinybench, type-level testing, sharding, and TypeScript and JSX support. The README lists Vite 6.4.0 and Node 22.12.0 as minimum versions.
