What pytest is

pytest is a Python testing framework for small unit tests and complex functional tests of applications and libraries. Tests use plain assert statements, and failures report detailed introspection of the asserted values. It discovers test modules and functions automatically. Modular fixtures manage small or parametrized long-lived test resources. It can run unittest and trial suites without changes. It requires Python 3.10 or later, or PyPy3. A plugin architecture supports external plugins listed in the documentation. Tests run from the command line with the pytest command.
