What JUnit is
JUnit is a testing framework for Java and the JVM, developed as three sub-projects in one repository. The JUnit Platform launches testing frameworks on the JVM. JUnit Jupiter combines the programming and extension models used to write tests and extensions. JUnit Vintage adds a test engine that runs JUnit 3 and JUnit 4 tests on the platform. JUnit requires Java 17 or later at runtime, while code compiled with older JDKs can still be tested. IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse, NetBeans and Visual Studio Code run JUnit tests directly. Gradle, Maven, Ant, Bazel and sbt also support the platform. A Console Launcher starts the platform from the command line.
