What ESLint is
ESLint is a tool that identifies and reports patterns in ECMAScript and JavaScript code. It parses code with Espree and evaluates patterns on an abstract syntax tree. Every rule is a plugin, and more rules can be added at runtime. Rules are configured in an eslint.config.js file with off, warn or error levels. Error-level rule violations produce a non-zero exit code. It supports ECMAScript 3, 5 and each yearly edition from 2015 onward. JSX parsing is built in and enabled through configuration. It runs from the command line on files or directories. It requires Node.js.
