What Coverage.py is
Coverage.py measures code coverage of Python programs, typically while a test suite runs. It relies on tracing hooks and code analysis tools from the Python standard library to find which lines are executable and which ran. Line coverage is the default, and branch coverage is optional. A program is measured by replacing `python` with `coverage run`, for example `coverage run -m pytest`. Reports are produced as text, HTML, XML, LCOV or JSON. Supported interpreters are Python 3.10 to 3.15 rc2, free-threaded builds included, and PyPy3 3.10 and 3.11.
